Institute of Agriculture
Development Board

Jump to list of board members.

The Agricultural Development Board is composed of 20 prominent leaders in agriculture from throughout Tennessee and the nation. The group works to secure new sources of private and public support for the Institute's programs as well as to strengthen ties with current and previous donors.

The three-year appointments are named by Dr. D. M. Gossett, UT vice president for agriculture. "Our goal of developing the best agricultural programs in the Southeast cannot be achieved without private gifts," Gossett says. "The Agricultural Development Board helps us intensify our efforts toward reaching this ambitious yet achievable goal."

Several areas in need of additional funding and which are strategic to the Institute's mission include:

· Scholarships and fellowships

· Faculty development

· Research

· Physical facilities and equipment for which annual state appropriations are unavailable

· Expanded programs and services to meet the varied needs of Tennessee agriculture that are undertaken by each of the Institute's four units: Agricultural Experiment Station, the Agricultural Extension Service, the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and the College of Veterinary Medicine.

"Because they have a direct link to Tennessee's agriculture and agribusiness industry," Gossett says, "board members provide valuable insight into the problems, concerns and opportunities of Tennessee agriculture. Such input enables the Institute to address those issues that have the most significant impact on the state's largest industry."
