Institute of Agriculture
Alumni Council
The UT Agricultural Alumni Council
is composed of 30 graduates of UT's College of Agricultural Sciences and
Natural Resources and the College of Veterinary Medicine. It is a support
group that works to benefit the UT Institute of Agriculture.
The three-year appointments are made by Dr. D.M.
Gossett, UT vice president for agriculture.
"The council establishes a direct link to
our alumni," Gossett says. "We take great pride in the achievements
of our graduates in agriculture and veterinary medicine, and we welcome
their valuable assistance in developing and enhancing programs vital to
the Institute and to the Tennessee agricultural community."
Areas targeted for involvement by the council
include:
· Developing increased public awareness
of the functions and services of the Institute, which include teaching,
research, and public service;
· Promoting activities that recognize the
importance of agriculture to the state;
· Assisting with student recruitment;
· Alerting Institute officials to problems
and concerns of Tennessee agriculture and the entire agribusiness industry
that could be addressed by Institute units. Those units include the Agricultural
Sciences Experiment Station, the Agricultural Extension Service, the College
of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and the College of Veterinary
Medicine;
· Identifying new sources of public and
private support for agricultural, home economics, and veterinary medicine
programs in the Institute.
